Aromatase Inhibitors

Aromatase is present in breast tissue, and intratumoral aromatase is the source of local estrogen production in breast cancer tissues. Inhibition of aromatase is an important approach for reducing growth-stimulatory effects of estrogen in estrogen-dependent breast cancer.

First generation aromatase inhibitors are
  • aminoglutethimide
  • testololactone
Second generation aromatase inhibitors are
  • fadrazole
  • formestane

Third generation aromatase inhibitors are
  • exemestane
  • anastrazole
  • letrozole.

Other than that, flavanoids, such as
  • isolicoflavonol
  • rotenone
  • 7-hydroxyflavone
  • chrysin
  • apigenin
  • 7-hydroxyflavanone
  • nariagenin
  • alpha-napthoflavone
  • 7-hydroxy-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-[(4'-pyridylmethyl)-thio)-isoflavone 3-(imidazolylmethyl)-4'nitroflavone
  • 4-benyl-3-(4'-chlorophenyl)-7-methoxycoumarin
  • biochanin A
  • synthetic pyridyl isoflavone analog
  • quercetin
  • 7,8-benzoflavone.
